Urban Riding Tips
Patrol Sgt. Greg Amundsen of the Missoula Police Department oversees the city’s mounted patrol officers.
He offers this advice for motorists.
"The smaller an object is, the slower it appears to be going. Motorists should watch the object travel a while to get a feel for how fast it’s actually moving before pulling out."
Riding in town?
Sgt. Amundsen has some advice:
- Always cover your clutch and brake levers.
- Make eye contact with motorists who are stopped to make sure they see you.
- Stay out of a vehicle’s blind spots.
- Do not ride behind pickups or trucks that something can fall off of or out of such as gravel or garbage.
- Ride very defensively while in town.
- Do not presume motorists are going to see you.
